Notes:
- If you're applying via travel agency, no need to read this. HAHAHA!
- This March 2015, the Embassy announced new requirements in applying for a Korean Visa, please visit this site.
*I posted an updated blog about Korean Visa Application, please click HERE, this is one talks about the March 2015 requirements as well as the updated application form.*
BIGBANG. KOREAN SKINCARE. BLOCK B. KOREAN FOOD. Just a few reasons why I wanted to go to South Korea, but it's not that easy because as a Philippine Passport holder, it requires me to present a Korean Visa every visit. I'm no expert when it comes to this matter, but I'd just like to share my experience when I applied for a South Korean visa on my own.
I submitted my papers a month before my departure, prior to that I asked (or bugged haha) my friends who traveled to Korea already, like Gem, who has an amazing blog about THIS.
FIRST step is you have to download the application form in the embassy's website.
The requirements are all listed in the website, DO NOT submit any item that's not indicated in the list. As a freelancer, I submitted all the requirements under the category EMPLOYEES.
PLEASE! PLEASE! PLEASE! Read the instructions listed on page 2 of the form first before filling it up. Make sure you won't leave any blank space unless stated. Just write down N/A (Not Applicable).
The form must not have any erasures and make sure all the information you'll write there are FACTS.
II. 1 Piece of Passport Size Colored Picture
Have your picture taken against WHITE background and wear something with collar. I did not smile when I got mine taken.
III. Original Passport
The latest one and must be valid within six months. If your latest passport does not have any stamps better prepare your previous one in case the embassy asks for it.
IV. Photocopy of Passport Bio (Page 2)
I scanned mine and printed it. B&W or colored. It does not matter, as long as the details are clearly seen.
V. Original & Photocopy of Valid Visas and Arrival Stamps to OECD Member Countries for The Past 5 Years
This is only optional and Korean Visa does not count. This is nice to have since you'll get the embassy's decision after three (3) working days (compared to the normal process which is usually 5 working days). Unfortunately, I don't have this requirement that's why I waited for five days. HA HA HA. OTL
VI. Original Certificate of Employment (COE)
You can request your COE to your HR. Please remind them that they should include the following:
- Date of issue of the COE (the more recent, the better)
- Date of Hire (technically my first project with the company since I'm a freelancer)
- Job Position
- Monthly Salary (i listed my average salary per month since I don't have a fixed salary)
- Travel Dates (or dates you are on leave)
- Contact Number/s and address of the company
- Lastly, have them addressed it to:
Embassy of The Republic of Korea
122 Upper McKinley Road, McKinley Town Center,
Fort Bonifacio, Taguig, Philippines
Make sure that the contact number written is working because if the Embassy can't contact your company you might have a problem with your visa approval. EOTTOKE!!! WE DO NOT WANT THAT!
VII.Original Personal Bank Certificate
Request a bank certificate in the branch where you opened your account. Your bank certificate should state the date you opened your account (preferably at least 6 months), account type, and the total amount of savings in your account and/or the 6 months average balance (ADB).
I paid Php100 as processing fee to Chinabank and I got mine the day after. When I was researching, I was really wondering how much savings is needed in order for my visa to be approved. There is no definite answer, hahaha. But during that time, I had Php 60,000 in my account I was travelling to South Korea for 11 days.
And just like the COE, bank certificate must also include the day it was issued, must be addressed to the Embassy and it has to be recent.
VIII. Bank Statement
I applied last 2014, and I will apply again on February 2016. I will update this part after that, but the Embassy requires the original or certified true copy of the bank statement/passbook for the last 3 months.
VIII. Photocopy of the Income Tax Return (ITR) or Form 2316
In my case I'm keeping all of these papers but for employees you can request this one from your HR or accounting department. Just submit a photocopy, no need to give the Embassy the original copy, it has no bearing at all. Make sure that this includes your personal TIN number.
OTHER TIPS:
A. In filling up the application form:
- Purpose of Entry: I wrote down "Tour/Vacation
- Address in Korea & Phone in Korea: I wrote down the address of Rio Guesthouse >insert link< as well as their number. If you still don't have a booking for your accommodation, write down "undecided", but I can't guarantee you that this will work since I haven't tried it yet. LOL. Please don't write N/A in this item or worse leave it blank.
- Who will pay for the expense for your stay?: I wrote down "myself".
- Accompanying Family / Guarantor or Reference in Korea: I place N/A on all columns and rows to be safe. hehehe ;)
B. Make sure to have a photocopy or scanned copies of the documents that you will submit to the Embassy, especially the original documents.
C. Before submitting papers, double check if you've filled up all the items in the form. Make sure to leave no blank spaces.
D. Submit in order based on the requirements given.
E. All documents must be issued within 3 months on the date of application.
F. Submission of Application is from 9:00AM-11:00AM only (Monday-Friday)
G. Releasing Time is from 2:00PM-4:00PM only (Monday-Friday)
H. Tourist Visa Application for Filipinos is FREE (For 59 days or less stay in South Korea). If you apply on your own it is FREE, but if it's via Travel Agency, the agency will charge you a processing fee. The amount of fee mostly starts at Php1,500.
I. Give the Embassy what is stated in the requirements, nothing more, nothing less. Unless they asked for it. Like in my case, the Embassy called me a day before I will receive the decision and they asked me to bring a copy of my College Diploma to complete the requirements. YOU CAN WON'T IMAGINE HOW NERVOUS I WAS WHEN I GOT THE CALL.
2:00PM The day after the call, I went back to the Embassy hoping I will get approved. The officer from Window 2 called me and I gave her my College Diploma, she asked me if I'm willing to wait til 5:00PM for the decision or I'll go back the next day. Of course, I told her that I AM WILLING TO WAIT. While waiting for the verdict, I witnessed two or three disappointed applicants because they got denied. It was 5:00PM and the crowd in the Embassy got thinner and finally my name was called...
OH MY GOD! I was so happy! Super Happy! I can't contain my excitement inside the embassy. I kept on saying 감사합니다 to all of the employees. So Crazy!
-뿅 :D
Hello ate :) tanong ko Lang po.. what if I am only student and I want to have visa? Is that possible?
ReplyDeleteyes possible siya :) you can use your parents/guardian as guarantor.
DeleteSo much of documents needed. But it is still okay. By the way, how long does visa services in the Philippines takes?
ReplyDeleteit usually takes 5 working days, but if you have a visa from OECD member countries it's only 3 working days. :)
DeleteHi, I'm a freelancer too. :) Did you mention that you are a freelancer even if you applied as an employee? Or did your COE mention that you are a freelancer?
ReplyDeleteyup, my COE mentioned that i'm a freelancer. :)
DeleteHi!
ReplyDeleteI am a freelancer just like you and your blog is very helpful! I just want to ask what ITR did you submit on the Embassy? Also, I have plenty of clients right now, I don't know which COE should I get and how? Some of them are just new and the contracts are for a short period of time only.
Oh I see, I submitted my ITR (1701) as well as my form 2307 which I got from all of the production houses I've worked with. As for the COE, I got it from the production house where I usually work. :) I requested it from our HR :)
DeleteHi! Would like to ask, why do you think na hiningan ka pa ng college diploma ng Embassy? Thanks :)
ReplyDeleteI don't have any idea at all to be honest. hehehe pero yung iba kong kasamang nag-apply hiningan din sila eh, lahat kami freelance, baka the embassy just wants to check if college graduate kami lahat. :)
DeleteHello po!
ReplyDeleteFreelancer din po akp pero wala akp ITR. Pero meron ako pErsonal TIN. My land title ako na nakaname sakin.
Ano po kaya dapat ko gawen?
Thank you!
ITR is really a requirement from the embassy, what you can do if you don't have one is to have a guarantor, tapos ITR niya and bank cert & bank statement niya ang gagamitin. :) you can also check with the embassy if they have better options. thanks :)
DeleteThanks for your respose.
DeleteGuarantor po dito sa PH? Hindi po ba pwede magprovide ng 12months Cert of Earnings?
Ohh, my knowledge is limited kasi it is better to contact the Embassy regarding this concern :) If you have a guarantor kasi siya yung hihingan ng embassy ng mga ITR, Bank Statement, Bank Cert...
DeleteFor employment, as Freelancer aside from checking Employed, Can I check 'Other' and write "Online Freelancer"? I don't have ITR but I only want to avail the BPI Gold Mastercatrd Multiple entry Visa
ReplyDeletehello so sorry for the late response, glad you got your visa already :)
DeleteHi Bea, did you submit business registration documents? or BIR FORM 1701 lang? Salamat.
ReplyDeleteHello, yup I submitted the 1701 form as my ITR, tapos po kumuha ako ng COE sa company where I usually get projects. :) Kaya under employee pa din yung pinili ko.

ReplyDeleteIf you have a BPI or BDO Gold/Platinum credit card you don't need to submit ITR. I already got my Korean Visa last may 10.
Delete@Roger - for the BPI credit card, I think, you will need to deposit 100k on it, right? Thanks for the answer
DeleteWhat will happened if you leave blank in your application for the Korean Visa?
ReplyDeleteHi, some say that it may be a cause for your visa to get denied so I'm not suggesting you to take that risk ;)
DeleteHello Bea,
ReplyDeleteGreat blog! Thank you for all the helpful tips!
My question is I have traveled to Japan last year which is an OECD member country. Am I exempted for ITR? The website says "Frequent Traveler to OECD Member Countries" --not sure if I need to have more than one OECD country to qualify for ITR exemption. I'm an online freelancer and my clients are based in the US. Is it okay to provide their US phone number? Do I need to provide all of my clients contact info and COE from them or one client should be fine?
Thank you in advance!
Hello, yes I've read in the embassy's site that there's such rule now, that there's no longer need to submit documents if you have visa of any OECD member countries and/or you've been to Korea already, but I applied last August 2016 for another VISA, and they still kept the ITR I submitted, usually if they don't need it, they return the requirement upfront.
DeleteSo I think it's better if you pass an ITR as well, or go to the embassy directly if you have any questions. (calling their number is impossible since there's no one answering most of the time)
Hi Bea,
ReplyDeleteIf I ask BIR for 1701, do I have to pay anything?
Thank you
Hi, if you'll just ask for a form, nope there's no need to pay, but you have to file for your tax (depending on terms), but usually you have to pay for a certain amount when filing.
Deletehello! I've read in some blog/article, that landline is preferable what if I'm a part timer working in a private clinic without a landline number? what can you suggest?
ReplyDeleteFor my application I wrote the company's landline number, personally I think it's okay to put the mobile number of your workplace, what's important for the embassy is that they can connect / call your HR :)

ReplyDeleteHi, I read your blog and it's very helpful. I'm just wondering, since I'm also a freelance artist, what are the requirements or documents do I need to show to the embassy in regards to getting a Korean visa?
ReplyDeleteHi Deandrea, I have an update blog about that :) kindly see here >>> https://beaprisa.blogspot.com/2016/02/korean-visa-application-process-and.html
DeleteHi Miss Bea,
ReplyDeleteI'm planning to go to south korea this november but I'm kinda confused on what requirements I should submit. I'm a freelance fashion designer and I just recently registered sa BIR (july 2017). I don't have an ITR for this year, can I submit my COR instead? I'm not sure if I should apply as an employee since I'm not being employed like other freelancer that has a certain time frame of work in a company. I hope you can help me out. Thank you!

DeleteHello Pat, super sorry for the delayed reply. Usually for us freelancers they ask for an ITR eh, better if you go straight to embassy for questions.
DeleteOr pwede rin na may magsponsor sayo para sila yung magbigay ng ITR, Bank Cert :)
Hi. I've recently resigned in my full time job a month ago and I am now in transition of becoming a freelancer. I still don't have any client but there's a possibility that I will be having one this week. I have plans on applying for SoKor visa on the third week of September. So for the questions:
ReplyDelete1. If I will ask for a Certification from my client who is from abroad, will a digital Certification / scanned copy be okay?
2. Since, if ever, I'll just be starting my work this week or the following week, I will not be able to process my tax obligation yet, right? So will my ITR from my previous work be ok?
Thank you in advance!

DeleteHello, super sorry for the delayed reply.
Delete1. Based on my experience, may na-help na akong magprocess ng VISA na scanned copy, nakakuha naman siya ng VISA. Pero better to give pa rin original kasi di mo masabi if for now, di na sila tatanggap ng scanned :)
2. Yup previous is okay :)
Hi Bea, I'm a freelancer too. I have an ITR 1701 and COR. I am Just confused on what address to write in the companies address. Not sure if the address that is registered in the COR or my clients address in the US.

DeleteHello, sorry for the delayed reply, pero better if you write both :) One here in PH para they can contact it easily :)
